Hey guys, wondering how many of you run a mud motor? If so what kind? And how you like it!

Well currently I run a pro-drive. I use to run a go-devil and just sold my 7hp stump jumper.
Go-devil was a champ, never had any issues with it. Stumpjumper makes a nice product.
I like my pro-drive but jumped the gun to soon on the purchase. Being that i run the river and there is a lot of harder bottom the smaller outdrive of the PD puts me at a disadvantage. There is nothing wrong with the motor but I should have went with a Gatortail and there 38" outdrive. Longer outdrive is better for harder bottom.
Only issues I have had is that some of my console wiring was done sub par by a smaller outpost of PD that is no longer in Business. That will be corrected here in the next couple months by Illowa Marine. These problems were nothing to do with PD or the motor/ Unit it self.
I will say tho that I have spun out a coupler, possibly being due to a modded motor. So i have had my issues but they all been addressed.
Once more ppl get on this EFI and get there issues worked out I will more than likely be going with gatortail. Im hoping subaru comes out with a Big block as there 28 on the new 25gtr is a beast.
I do really like with backwater is doing in the LT world and hopein that I can get another rig from them in the next couple years. I always like have a couple rigs for different purposes.

Forgot to add. Full power reverse has got me out of a few situations where with out it I would have been F'ed sides. I was stuck as a fat kid is quick sand. Thru er in reverse and backed out. I was skeptical about the reverse getting me out, but the lift on the transoms and some heavy throttle worked like a charm

Koonce, Nice! Yeah that is such a nice thing I would imagine having full power reverse, I know I wish I had it a couple of times.
How did you like your stump jumper? Was it a good motor? Thinking of possibly getting one.

I only ran it for prob 30 min to be honest and then sold it here about two weeks ago. I had planned on making a one man rig, but I never seem to hunt alone and always want my dog with. It was a nice motor, made strong. I good buddy of mine has had one for years and its a brute. He runs his on a Grumman sport boat and it runs good. Never had any issues with it at all. Those subaru motors are strong. The other nice thing is he is a local guy. He only lives about 30 min from me. Side note he is currently working on and exhaust and a re-tune. Hes hoping for about a 2hp gain which is pretty good on a 7hp motor.

i used to have a 9hp long tail and it pushed my boat pretty well. I didnt like it in the timber situations because the long tail gave me the turning radius of a semi
