What is your guys favorite duck call to use while hunting? Last year my favorites were the RNT Blackout Daisy Cutter, and the RNT Microhen.
I did get a couple new calls since one that I really am liking the sound of is the Grounds D Overhauler and the RNT MVP.
I did get a RNT Diablo but still working on making a cut down call sound good, I have a feeling once I get it sounding well consistantly it will be a new favorite.

Right now my lanyard has 2 lares calls on it, with two different tunes. I have yet to run a call that can run like a Lares(so far), and have converted a few people into lares junkies. After lares its RM custom calls gold digger. I have owned and ran a lot of calls but I have never tried a Mondo.
I do have an RNT john stephens signature series Daisy Slayer, that is a good sounding call, but since they are now selling for $250+ it is now back in its box and stored safely.
I will add that even though it is fun to blow a hen mallard call, we call, work, and finish most birds with whistles..... teal peeps, wigeon calls, and greebs.

I've been using the Duck Dynasty brand "My First Duck Call" but so far I haven't had much luck for some reason. Seriously, since I'm fairly new to calling and I don't call all that much, I only have a few calls and they are all cheap. Buck Gardner and a couple of other low end of the spectrum offerings from other makers. I just haven't gotten to the point where it seems worthwhile to invest too much in a call. I don't know if using those cheap calls hinders me too much at this point or not, but I can usually get them to act in a fairly positive manner when I do call to them. Maybe when I get better, or at least more confident, I will invest in some better calls, but I would really like to know if you guys think it makes a significant difference. They always say about fishing lures that they are designed to catch fisherman first and fish second. Is there some of that with ducks calls? Or are there clear cut differences in hose high end calls that can't be achieved with a 20 dollar call?

Nope, not much difference. Ive killed ducks with all sorts of duck calls. Like you said its more centered at us the people and who is winning on the stage. You money is better invested else where. When I lived in MN a few times a year for sentimental reasons, I would bust out 2 handmade duck calls that were made in the late 70s and passed down to me by my grandfather. These calls are far from fancy sounding, they are quiet and very basic and I have shot limits using them. I feel the same can be said for decoys. My father in law swears by small jugs dunked in tar, he's been killing ducks with them for 20+ years, yet we the modern hunter feel if we do not have the latest and greatest the guy next to us might and he will kill all the ducks.......
They always say about fishing lures that they are designed to catch fisherman first and fish second. Is there some of that with ducks calls? Or are there clear cut differences in hose high end calls that can't be achieved with a 20 dollar call? There are def differences in calls when comparing low and high grade especially company to company. The biggest different imo would be range, ease of use/user friendly, and sound difference. But a lot of this is for the stage rage. You wont see a $20 primos wench winning the world live meat or mainstreet. It doesn't have the sound judges are looking for or the range, but that same primos wench will kill ducks, and has killed ducks. I would be willing to bet there are more ducks killed over "cheaper" calls vs the high end ones. For every person I know that owns nice calls there are 10 more people who just don't get into it that much and they just want to shoot a duck. I don't need a ranger boat and all Rapala gear to catch fish, shoot I don't even know the high end brands of rods, I catch a ton of fish on my $40 ugly sticks

Yeah I certainly don't knock anyone for buying expensive duck calls. If I had unlimited funds I probably would too, but as it is I have to pick and choose where to invest when it comes to gear. Someday I will probably buy one of the nicer ones. How do you guys feel about acrylic vs wood?

I have both and like both. Wood has a "softer" sound to it, acrylic is more crisp. I find myself running more acrylic in the blind just because I usually have to hunt all day long and wood swells. The softer the wood the softer the sound. There are also harder woods that to me run just like an acrylic, especially stabilized woods. My favorite goose call and the one that sees the most run time is a Hedge barrel and acrylic insert. I had to tape the barrel because it didn't have a crack ring and after some heavy use it swelled and cracked. But its still my favorite goose call

I ran one duck call (besides the whistle) last year and it was a lares hybrid. Love that call. Never once air locked, spit locked, but it did freeze due to 10 degree weather. But all it took was a hard blow to unfreeze it and she ran great!
