That email was from Rick Rosen, West Central Region Conservation Warden.

Jackson's open. I was out scouting there yesterday and saw 4-5 vehicles scattered all over. No signs in parking lots or anything. Yep, I was mistaken in my original post. Jackson Marsh is state owned. Not part of the Refuge system. Thanks. How's it looking out there, any ducks around?

Thanks koonce. That's pretty much all the info that I have found as well. The contingency plan and the fact sheet. I think even local authorities are having trouble getting guidance from the Feds. And the Dept of the Interior website is pretty much useless at the moment. Fortunately, the problem is limited to those Federal areas, but for the people that hunt them it's a real pain in the butt.
I wish the DNR would just come out and declare that they won't be performing law enforcement on behalf of the Feds. Then I'd be less concerned because there probably aren't many Fish and Wildlife officers to patrol the areas. A lot of them are furloughed. On the other hand I don't want to knowingly violate the law. I guess the best we can hope for right now is that they end this thing sooner rather than later. The whole thing just irks the heck out of me.

Looks ok, the construction on the gas pipeline has disrupted some areas. I hunted the youth weekend there and it was OK. I think it all depends where you are and what's around. Right now I think the population is pretty stale. Hopefully we'll get a push after the split.

Thanks Deuce. Hopefully we'll get that push. I had planned on hitting Jackson a little later in the season because it's so close. I forgot about that pipeline work out there.

Very welcome. Let me know if you want a partner when you head out there. I'm new to the area and always looking for people to hunt with.

I will do. I definitely want to give Jackson a try, if I hear decent reports or scout it and see birds, at least once this season.

How much more is there to hunt in the Jackson marsh other than pike lake? I just built a house about 2 minutes from there. Seen lots of geese lately

The Jackson Marsh Wildlife area, which allows hunting, is east of Pike Lake on the other side of 45. Basically between hwy 60 and Pleasant Valley Road (Hwy PV?). We used to enter via Maple Road, off of Pleasant Valley road. I haven't been back there in a little while but I assume that hasn't changed. It's not too far from you. dnr.wi.gov/topic/lands/wildlifeareas/jackson.html

This whole stupid thing is being done to inconvenience people as much as possible. The few Fish and Wildlife officers that are around will be enforcing the law when they catch people violating it. I think the whole thing is BS as well, but just be careful. Don't be the guy these folks decide to make an example of.

Most landings aren't federally supported so if we use those and stay off dry land they won't have much of an argument.

I read in the paper today that the boat landings on the Mississippi river will stay open. And they didn't list any public hunting grounds that are going to be closed to hunters. It was in the milwaukee paper today.
