Any of you guys use Swan decoys in you duck spreads? I hunt a place that is full of swans, and I was thinking of picking up a few decoys for confidence and visibility, but wanted to see if any of you use them first.

Shhh. It works. Not lights out or anything but it gives birds a different look. Only downside your more than likely not gonna get any honkers with the swan deeks. Big snow floaters work just paint them full white and are cheaper than buying swan deeks themselves. It's becoming more popular each year here on the river. Lots of guys running anywhere from 2 to a doz. most guys are just using snows painted into swans.

yeah everybody says that about the geese, but everywhere around here guys have them in there private ponds to keep geese out, and there are still geese all over those ponds, they will swim right up to them. I have also seen them a number of times together on some springs in the winter time, swans, mallards, and Canada's all in an a small area of open water.
So I wondered if geese wouldn't still come in close and check them out, or totally avoid the swan decoys.

It does help for visability. But like he said there is no chance for geese. The swans around LaCrosse come in late October and basically push all the Canada's out. The rest of the huge migrating groups of geese come once the swans leave which seems to be end of November early December.

That's pretty interesting. I have never hunted anywhere that had a migration of swans come through, there are always just a few around. But it makes sense with what you said about the flights of them.
Thanks, Tanner

Yea around here the swans and geese rarely mix. They compete for the same fees and the swans push the geese around. I've heard the same thing in small ponds and docks where swan deeks don't work. Keep in mind they place these swan deeks where geese have been going for years and those deeks don't attack the honkers that come in. I've never seen a honker decoys to a swan spread around these parts. Not saying it won't happen, I ve just never seen it.
If your ran honkers and lets day 2 swans off to the side it may be a different story.
