So you would think, but this was the worst weekend I've had all season 1 mallard Saturday, and no geese today.

I am an old fart, but a youngblood to duck hunting. I dropped my first ringneck yesterday!!! Beautiful bird! Dropped in the corner, Elvis marked it. Still swimming a bit, dove, Elvis waited, swam after it as it entered the marsh grass. Elvis goes in, lots of splashing, and then here he comes, bird in mouth!! ;D To me, that is a great day!!!!!! That is as good as it gets for this old man!! stan b & Elvis

Stan, That's awesome!! Watching the dog work is the best part of hunting I think. good work on the ringbill too, they are one of my favorite ducks out there and one of the prettiest too!

That's great roadkill, I love those ringers too! Congrats to you and Elvis! You gonna get it mounted?
I went up north a bit on Saturday and I'm telling you that birds in that marsh are getting very educated. Saw hundreds of teal flying out in the 10-15 minutes before shooting light, and very little after that. Totally blew a shot on a single mallard then decided to pack it in. Sunday I went out alone and did a little bit of a spot and stalk hunt and wound up shooting a single bufflehead. Darn thing came straight over, I stoned it and it sailed over me and landed in the very top of 20-25 foot tall tree. It hung up there for a second, but before I could yell out a curse word a branch snapped and it came crashing down to the ground. lol

Bad bit of hunting this weekend. When I say the birds were gone. They were gone. I went everywhere I could think of scouting. All the thin-skinned ducks were gone and nothing new pushed in. Only saw about 3 flocks of overeducated mallards all weekend and very few geese.

Sat Friday thru Sunday. Was slow going until about 10am saturday when the slush rain started. The birds were up and moving. Fun to watch those kinds of numbers. Mostly mallards and woodies. None of them wanted to decoy. Very educated mallards in the area. Saw big flights before and after shooting time on Friday and Saturday. Sunday was slow. Same weather, slushy rain but not many birds moving-weird. A warden snuck up on my hunting buddy cpetey, in the middle of nowhere on Sunday. I walked back over to visit. Nice guy. We shot a bunch of woodies and a lone mallard. I walked into the water to set my decoys and left my raincoat pocket open. Phone got a nice bath. Hopefully cpetey will post a few pics. The weather was really weird on saturday allowing for some cool scenery.
