Saturday never fired a shot. Sunday never fired a shot. Hundreds of buffleheads using area lakes. Literally hundreds. None of them had any interest in decoying near the shoreline though. Might have to invest in a couple dozen buffie decoys for next year if the situation arises again.
I hear the cold blast today has ducks moving into my area in droves. I got a call from a relative and she said it sounds like a duck farm out there this morning. Here I sit at work! Fock!

Is there a lot of geese up there yet on water? Heading up this weekend for a few days and was wondering if there was still geese using the bigger lakes, or if its just ducks.
Thanks, Tanner

Lots of geese around still Tanner. They are using the 5-10 foot deep sections of the bays that still hold a little rice. Should not be much of a task to kill 2 per person.
I will be giving it a shot again on Sunday and Monday morning. Still a lot of goldeneye in the area too so don't forget to throw a couple black & white dekes at the end of your spread.

This warm weather should be opening the lakes back up pretty good next few days. Up in Superior here the ice is going back off the river and little bays. I'm hoping to get a good mallard and goose shoot in on Sunday and Monday morning then my season is just about over. I will try the St. Croix after Thanksgiving. I have been seeing geese using the Namakagon as well.

My season is done. Ducks are gone in the area I hunt and geese are sparse. Had to break 1-1/2" of ice to get in the lake Sunday A.M. Resorted to hunting grouse and managed to bag a couple. All in all it was an okay year for me but last year was a little better.

I spoke too soon. Starting to look like I will be heading south after Thanksgiving to hunt the big river... my old stomping grounds.
I really need to get over to the Chip sometime next year and do some riding around. It is about an hour from my normal hunting spots but if it is worth the ride I have no problem with that. I've driven a couple hours in the morning to get on Leech Lake before when it was hot.
